Blue-Blocking Glasses
by VivaRays
The blue-blocking glasses I wear and recommend above any other brand. In today’s world, blue-blocking glasses are essential for your health. When you hear that “blue-blocking glasses don’t work,” it’s because most blue blockers don’t. They’re cheap and sell you on a popular health trend. So unlike $20 pairs you find on Amazon, clear lenses that do nothing (like a lot of prescription lenses that claim to be “blue blockers,” or other popular brands that tend to over-block daytime/yellow frames, VivaRays lenses do it right—in a way that actually protects your circadian and eye health. Every pair of VivaRays is tested with a spectrometer and all lenses are tinted by an optometrist in cooperation with a professional lab. It means they work, and they do it better than any other company I know.

Frame Style:
I own the Alegria because I think they’re the most flattering. VivaRays will soon have a digital try-on feature on their site, however. So, you’ll soon be able to see which ones you think work best for you before needing to purchase.
Cost:Best Value: Buy the full set (3-in-1 non-prescription / 4-in-1 prescription) if you can afford it. Around $300.
Lowest Cost: Buy just the orange frames if:
The full set isn’t in your budget.
You don’t work in front of screens, inside behind window glass, or under artificial lighting all day (when you’d want the yellow base frames on).
You don’t struggle to fall asleep when wearing just the orange (red is useful 30-90 minutes before bed because they cut out green and purple wavelengths, in addition to blue).
An Alternative: This company (click here) offers a set of all three lenses at a significantly lower cost ($135 for all three colors), but without the magnetic clip-on feature. Meaning you have to buy three separate frames, which are easier to lose and harder to carry around. But they also offer a set for kids.

Yellow: Do not wear them outside. They are only meant for indoor use. When inside, it’s recommended you sit very near a large, open window if weather allows. Otherwise, when indoors behind closed windows, under artificial light, and/or in front of digital screens, wear yellow.
Orange: Wear after sunset (or at least after sundown). And, wear them before sunrise or before getting natural sunlight in your eyes, whichever comes first. You want to put them on before opening your eyes when waking in the morning, unless your home has no sources of artificial light (including light through your windows). Once you step outside for morning light, remove your blue-blockers entirely.
Red: Wear 30-90 minutes before you want to fall asleep if you still struggle to fall asleep with only the orange frames, or if you like the extra “boost” of melatonin.

VivaRays is the only brand I know of that offers a 3-in-1 option, so you don’t need multiple pairs of blue-blockers (yellow, orange, and red).
They can also be made into prescription lenses!

Clear blue-light blockers focus on filtering blue-purple light (380-420 nm), which LED screens and modern lighting don't even emit. Meaning clear blue-blockers are useless.
Still, other brands of yellow-tinted (daytime glasses) like RaOptics, BonCharge, TrueLight, etc. block 100% of blue light at 455 nm and eliminate the beneficial blue-turquoise between 470-500 nm, which is extremely crucial to your health and well-being during the day. This range of light helps stimulate the brain, increase focus and alertness, and signal to the body that it is daytime. So, these other brands that block this band of light would be considered “over-blocking” and can cause drowsiness and disrupt your circadian rhythm, making them a poor choice for daytime use.
VivaRays strikes the perfect balance, harmonizing the harmful blue light and amplifying the deficient yellow, orange, and red wavelengths typically missing in artificial light sources.
