Light From the Sun
Humans evolved under natural sunlight, a dynamic, native electromagnetic frequency (EMF). Light from the sun tells your body what time of day it is by changing in color and brightness from sunrise to sunset, then largely disappearing after dark. Blue light is the strongest of these daytime signals, but green and violet light also influence your circadian rhythm. This timing coordinates essential cellular functions—from hormone production to energy use and repair. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to overstate how critical natural sunlight is to human health.Why Artificial Light is Different
Artificial light, by contrast, is static, non-native EMF. Screens, most LEDs, and other sources expose you to these same daytime colors in a relatively unchanging form—even after dark—sending your body a false daytime signal regardless of the hour. Even during the day, particularly indoors, constant artificial light can interfere with the natural signals your body expects to change. And all of these mismatches can profoundly disrupt your biology.

Brightness is another “zeitgeber”—a timekeeper your body uses to understand where it is in the daily light-dark cycle. Darkness at night is nearly as essential to human health as sunlight during the day, providing the signal your body needs to perform essential overnight repair. Viewing a bright screen at the wrong time, especially at full brightness after sunset or before sunrise, sends a daytime signal when your biology expects darkness, disrupting your circadian rhythm and silently harming your health. Most people can feel this mismatch: a bright screen in a dark room makes you squint, recoil, or immediately turn it down. That discomfort is your body recognizing how unnatural brightness at the wrong times can be—and you should trust it.

Most modern iPhones use OLED screens that control brightness through pulse-width modulation (PWM), rapidly cycling their pixels between brighter and darker states. The flicker may be too fast for you to consciously see, but your brain still registers and responds to it. So your phone can act like an invisible strobe light, stressing you out without your awareness. Studies have linked flicker to heightened nervous-system arousal, reduced focus, visual discomfort, eyestrain, & headaches or migraines. Unfortunately, lowering the brightness on newer iPhones—ones with OLED screens—can make the pulsing even more pronounced.

WHAT IT IS
Two Primary Shortcuts — Each Triggers Several Actions at Once
Go RadioDark
Fully cuts Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & cellular. Turns your screen red after sunset and yellow after sunrise. Keeps brightness as low as possible while mitigating flicker & maintaining legibility.

Fully disables Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & cellular—the radios responsible for your phone's non-native electromagnetic frequency output (nnEMFs). Turning these off in Control Center doesn't always fully shut the radio down; RadioDark cuts them in a way that actually works, so they're truly off.
Automatically sets your screen to the right color — red between sunset and sunrise, yellow when the sun is out — no matter where you live. At night, this effectively eliminates nearly all blue light and most green light. During the day, it significantly reduces excessive and unnecessary blue light exposure while still letting you see the screen in broad daylight.
It also manages brightness and flicker, which are inversely related on newer iPhones with OLED screens: the brighter the screen, the less flicker; the dimmer, the more. But brightness itself is a circadian signal — you don't want a bright screen glowing at you in the middle of the night. So RadioDark keeps your screen as dim as possible at the right times, just above the threshold where flicker becomes a problem for all but the most highly sensitive people.
Go Online
Turns cellular back on (calls, texts, internet). Intentionally keeps Wi-Fi & Bluetooth off. Manages screen color + mitigates brightness & flicker the same as Go RadioDark.

Go Online restores cellular immediately: calls and texts come back right away, and so does internet access for anything that needs a live connection—browsing, email, apps, streaming, and cloud backups included. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stay off, though, on purpose: switching them off from Control Center doesn't always fully disable the radio, and RadioDark's real value is a true, Settings-level cut. Automatically restoring them the moment you're back online would just hand back the exact problem RadioDark exists to solve, undoing the EMF reduction you just gained. When you're ready for them, the granular Wi-Fi On and Bluetooth On shortcuts can be used to restore each one deliberately.

Manually sets your screen to the red, dimmed night mode whenever you want. Great for extra blue-light reduction during the day, or if you prefer red regardless of the hour.

Red Screen (Night) manually applies RadioDark's nighttime tint and brightness, independent of what Go RadioDark or Go Online just set, and regardless of your current connectivity state. It effectively eliminates nearly all blue light and most green light your screen would otherwise emit, and dims brightness to 52%, just above the threshold where flicker becomes a problem for all but the most highly sensitive people. Because brightness and flicker are inversely related on iPhones (dimmer screens flicker more), this is the lowest brightness RadioDark ever uses, chosen specifically to balance circadian protection against flicker sensitivity. Use it any time you want deep blue-light reduction, even during the day, or whenever you'd simply rather have red than yellow. Your preference always overrides the automatic day/night detection.
Yellow Screen (Day)
Manually sets your screen to the warm daytime mode, bright enough for legibility indoors and out. Useful if you've flipped to red and quickly need more visibility again.

Blue Light On
When you’re outside in bright midday sunlight, a dimmer, yellow screen can be hard to see. This shortcut is intended only for these circumstances or in an emergency when you need better visibility. It brings blue light back to your phone and sets your screen brightness to 100%.
Cellular On
Restores cellular only. Your current screen color and brightness stay as they are — and since flicker is tied to brightness, your flicker level stays the same, too.
Wi-Fi On
Lets you turn on Wi-Fi with one tap, only when you need it.
Bluetooth On
Lets you turn on Bluetooth with one tap, only when you need it.

My name is Brandi. I’m a real person, with real experience in this field, and a real desire to help humans practice old ways in modern times. Much of that means aligning more closely with the natural signals humans evolved under, like sunlight, living water, getting offline, and touching the Earth, without having to completely abandon modern life or society. (Even if I often wish we would all become feral, nomadic, hunter-gatherers again. I’m doing my best.)
In any case, what gives me the credibility to offer this tool—and to know which settings truly help protect your health? For 3.5 years (2022–2026), I worked in circadian and mitochondrial health as a business partner to Carrie Bennett, a circadian and quantum health educator and clinician. During that time, circadian practices and tools completely changed my own health. I also had the privilege of watching those same practices change the lives of hundreds—perhaps thousands—of people while working alongside Carrie.
Now, I run my own business, Teach Me, Nature, where I teach “old ways” to modern adults—everything from circadian health and fermentation to ancestral and primitive skills.

No. RadioDark isn't something you download from the App Store. It's built entirely on Apple's own Shortcuts app, already set up and configured for you.
Building this as an actual native app would take serious development investment, the kind that usually needs outside funding, so a Shortcuts-based system lets me deliver the same result without one. (Though if you happen to be an investor, feel free to reach out.)

No, it does not cost money, and there’s no trick. RadioDark is fully a gift I’m offering to anyone who wants it.

No. RadioDark is built entirely on Apple's native Shortcuts app, which doesn't exist on Android. Bringing this to Android wouldn't be a simple port; it would mean building a completely separate product from scratch, using different tools entirely. More likely, it would require investment funding to hire an app developer. Again, if you’re an investor who cares about circadian and mitochondrial health (or know one), and would like to see this happen, please reach out.

RadioDark is guaranteed to work on iPhone 8 or newer, running a current iOS version. It's been directly tested on iPhone 8 through iPhone 16 Pro Max, the range of devices used in beta testing. Older models, from iPhone 6s to iPhone 8, are expected to work based on the Shortcuts app's own minimum requirements, but haven't been personally verified.

Not officially, at least not yet. I know for certain some features don't work correctly on Apple Watch, and I haven't tested Mac computers at all. iPad is looking good—it works on mine—but I'm not promising cross-device functionality at launch until I've tested it more broadly. So right now, RadioDark is only guaranteed to work on iPhone 8 or newer.

No, not after you’ve run the “Go RadioDark” shortcut, specifically, and that's intentional.
RadioDark is built to fully cut wireless signals, not just reduce them. Running “Go RadioDark” fully cuts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth completely, including calls and texts.
If you need to be reachable, just tap “Go Online” from whatever trigger method you've set up, and your cellular connection, calls, texts, and internet come back immediately. I can't confirm how Apple's satellite-based emergency features behave when cellular is cut off, so if that matters to you, it's worth checking directly on your own device.
Reality check, though: You wouldn’t be reachable if you were in Apple’s own “Airplane Mode,” either.
Or if you’d simply lost cell, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth service naturally, like out in the wilderness or mountains. The one difference: with RadioDark, your phone also isn't emitting harmful radiation at you while you're unreachable.
Choosing when and how to use RadioDark, including during any emergency, is entirely your responsibility.

Not reliably. Apple's “Find My” offline finding feature locates a phone using Bluetooth signals broadcasting to nearby Apple devices, even without Wi-Fi or cellular.
Since Go RadioDark cuts Bluetooth along with cellular and Wi-Fi, that offline-finding network won't work either.
But this is the same limitation you'd have if you'd manually put your phone in Airplane Mode yourself, or if it were simply out of range of any signal at all.
So if your phone is lost or stolen while fully disconnected, I can't guarantee it'll be locatable. Restoring your connection with Go Online, Wi-Fi On, or Bluetooth On may help, but only if you still have access to the phone to do so.

You could—but only partly. Airplane Mode shuts down your cellular connection, but Bluetooth may remain active, and your iPhone can remember Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth settings you previously re-enabled while in Airplane Mode. So the airplane icon alone doesn’t guarantee every wireless radio is off. It also does nothing about blue light, brightness, or flicker. RadioDark handles all of these settings in a single tap, without requiring you to check and adjust each one manually.

You could! Shortcuts is available to anyone with a new enough iPhone, and I encourage you to do what works for you. But building something like this means building all the Shortcuts' action logic from scratch, knowing which settings truly support your health, and discovering any non-obvious platform quirks for your specific device that most people wouldn't think to check for. That’s real time and effort. I’ve already done that work; all that's left for you is a short, one-time setup.

But after using and closely examining the existing options, I realized I wanted something different: settings configured to meet my standards (particularly ones involving circadian health), and features I couldn’t find in the products I tried. As a user myself, I decided to build the tool I wanted to exist—for myself, for my friends and family, for everyone I knew in the circadian-health world, and for anyone else looking for the same thing.
